Q. How often should I change or clean my air filters? A. Filters should be replaced each month your system is running. Replace filters with the same kind and size as the original filter. If your filter is reusable, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning. Electronic air cleaners should be washed every 4-6 weeks. Q. How close to the unit should I plant shrubs or flowers? A. Plants should not be closer than 18 inches. Q. There are two fan settings on my thermostat auto and on what does this mean? A. The auto setting generally means that the fan will only operate when the unit is in use. If the thermostat is set to on, the fan will run continuously. If you have an air cleaner the on setting will constantly filter the air. Q. Which direction should the furnace filter face? A: The arrow that is on the filter should point in the same direction as the airflow. Generally; it will point towards the furnace and should fit between the return air part of your system and the furnace. The filter screens out impurities such as, dust before the air is warmed / cooled and distributed through the duct system. Q. Can I cover my outdoor unit in the winter? A. There is no need to cover the unit. Air conditioners are manufactured to withstand all possible climate changes. Rain will help keep the unit clean. Never cover your unit; the moisture that will be trapped inside can hasten corrosion. You may want to place a piece of wood on top of the unit to protect the fan blade from damage. |
